And well done to John Major.

You may have been a bit of a clown, but top bombing with the lottery funding legacy you left behind.

We're the only nation in the world who don't give our athletes a penny for winning a medal.

I like that, though obviously they will then earn decent wedge from other sources.

Never been a fan of any Olympic sport where winning gold isn't the pinnacle of an athlete's career.

That said, I really enjoyed the sevens, final day of the golf & the tennis.

All these sports must be selected by foreigners that are anti British. They know that all the better sports come from Britain so they exclude cricket, rugby and netball and favour inferior sports like baseball , handball and basketball. This is what happens when you allow foreigners to control sport. Look at FIFA ffs..

They allow ping pong but not blow football or subuteo which are equivalent games.

Five new events for Tokyo are skateboard, surfboard, sports climbing (whatever the fuck that is), and, two for the Japs, Baseball/softball and karate.

But still no room for poor old squash.

Starts to get Canada-centric near the end but some great shots for everyone before that.

#17 of the American and Russian fencers is my favourite of the ones I have not seen before.

In 1996 Rusedski won it for finishing runner-up in the US Open. I doubt he'd make the top 30 shortlist if he'd done that this year.

Most underated sportsmen we have and after living in Hoy's shadow for years deserves some recognition

Agreed tho narrowing the list down to 10 is incredibly hard

Really spoiled for choice this year.

Stark contrast to 10-15 years ago.

Especially the year when Ryan fucking Giggs won it. Joke.

Re: The Rio Olympic Games 2016
the amazing thing about nick skelton is I used to watch him on tv in the early 80s at the horse of the year show and there he is, over 30 years later winning a gold medal after breaking his neck and all the other shit he's been through. what a legend

Re: The Rio Olympic Games 2016
Fucking great though isn't it knowing that every person on that list will be a worthy winner.

Not a footballer in sight.

Even the team award could be tough.

England Rugby team - Grand Slam and first tour win in Oz

Team GB hockey team

Team GB in it's entirety

List is endless.

Re: The Rio Olympic Games 2016
we've got a masters winner, a boxing world champion, current tour de france winner & and current f1 world champion.

mo, murray, trott, whitlock, Kenny, brownlee, peaty, skelton, adams, rose plus a load of other goal medal winners.

hard work narrowing that down to 10.

team of the year should go to Leicester with the women's hockey team in 2nd.
